The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) transported 241,582 TEU of containerized freight in 2025, representing a 6% decrease compared with 2024.

Valerii Tkachov, the deputy director of Ukrzaliznytsia’s Department of Commercial Operations, announced this in a statement, according to reports by the CFTS portal.

"Over the past three months, we have observed a gradual narrowing of the gap relative to the transport dynamics of 2024," Tkachov said.

The breakdown of container traffic by type of service and direction is as follows: export 143,235 TEU (59%); import 71,535 TEU (30%); domestic 26,812 TEU (11%); transit 0 TEU (0%).

Grain cargoes remained the largest category of containerized freight, accounting for 26% of total volumes.

The main freight categories transported in containers in 2025 were: grain — 62,987 TEU (26% of total volume, down 20 percentage points compared with the same period in 2024); ferrous metals — 46,411 TEU (19% of total volume, down 1 percentage point); oilseed meal and cake — 29,230 TEU (12% of total volume, up 4 percentage points); vegetable oils — 15,601 TEU (7% of total volume, down 1 percentage point); synthetic resins — 12,394 TEU (5% of total volume, up 1 percentage point).

Over the 12 months of 2025, export container shipments were routed via seaports (59,480 TEU or 42%) and land border crossings (83,755 TEU or 58%).
