Facilities belonging to the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) have been struck almost 300 times since the beginning of August.

According to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Oleksii Kuleba, railway crews manage to restore infrastructure within an average of 4 hours after an attack every day, enabling trains to resume operation on the same day, the CFTS portal reports. In areas where tracks or stations are damaged, combined transport routes - routes involving both trains and buses - are used.

Since the full-scale invasion, 221 railway workers have been injured and 37 have died in the line of duty, Kuleba said. He emphasized this during an award ceremony honoring Ukrzaliznytsia employees who ensure the country’s transportation network continues to function every day under the most challenging conditions.

The minister also noted that six new passenger railcars manufactured at the Kriukiv Railcar Building Works were recently put into service. Five were dispatched to Kharkiv and one to Dnipro. These are on frontline routes, where the operational demands on the transport system are highest.

These railcars are the final batch of the 66 railcars that the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) ordered last year, he said. According to him, each of the new railcars is the result of the work of hundreds of people. More than 160 Ukrainian companies are involved in their production, including companies relocated from temporarily occupied territories.
