A delegation from the ADM (Archer Daniels Midland Company) international agro-industrial corporation visited the Illichivsk merchant seaport on 18 February. The delegation included ADM Europe’s General Director Domingo Lastra, ADM Europe’s Operations Director Mark Hutchison, ADM Trading Ukraine’s General Director Iryna Prysiazhniuk, and others, the press service of the port announced in a statement.

The ADM Corporation is one of the largest agricultural traders in the world and operates successful businesses in 37 countries. The company acquired PJSC Ukrelevatorprom, a grain transshipment terminal with a capacity of 3.5 million tons per year in the Odesa port, in 2005.

With its own facilities at the Odesa port, the company decided to participate in a tender for implementation of investment projects on the territory of the Illichivsk port. This involves effective development of the territory of the port’s fourth terminal, particularly long-term lease of the 24th warehouse with subsequent modernization of the district and construction of a new transshipment complex.

"Three private stevedoring companies currently operate at port. Our goal is to increase that number to 10 companies in one year. It is quite possible to do this. We are ready to consider any investment projects involving both lease of land and efficient use of terminals and warehouses, particularly the 24th warehouse. We are interested in long-term partnership," the Illichivsk seaport’s Director Serhii Kryzhanovskyi said.

The port’s director also stressed that there is another problem – an urgent need for reconstruction of its berth facilities, as well as dredging of the port waters. This is the area of responsibility of the Ukrainian Port Authority. According to Kryzhanovskyi, the necessary set of works has already been planned for this year.
