Ukraine needs an additional 4 million tons of coal before the end of 2014, Prime Minister Yatseniuk said during a conference call with regional governors on Wednesday, the Ukrinform news agency reports

"With regard to coal, the situation remains difficult. According to our estimates, we need about four million tons of additional coal before the end of this year," he said.

According to Yatseniuk, a ship carrying this first consignment of coal from South Africa (84,000 tons) has already passed the Bosporus strait.

"Of course, the price (of coal from South Africa) is significantly higher than the cost of our coal from Lugansk and Donetsk. Russian terrorists specially bombed railways and mines in order to create a threat to the energy system of Ukraine," said the prime minister.
