Components and parts are stolen from 150-170 freight cars per day in Ukraine. The relevant data was provided by the Ukrainian Logistics Alliance, the CFTS portal reports.

"In total, three full-fledged trains are subjected to theft every day. PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia fails to load about 10,500 tons of cargo daily because of mass and systematic theft of railcar components," the Ukrainian Logistics Alliance’s head Volodymyr Ivaschuk said.

According to him, the number of thefts has more than doubled in less than one year.

He cited State Statistics Committee data, according to which the shortfall in the volume of loading of freight cars in the first seven months of this year was 12 million tons, compared with the corresponding period of last year. Ivaschuk suggested that the shortfall in the volume of loading of freight cars during the time that is spent on restoration of dismantled freight cars could also total 12 million tons.

As the CFTS portal reported, Ukrzaliznytsia’s militarized guards prevented more than 50 attempts to dismantle freight cars in the first five months of 2018 alone.
