The first personal meeting involving the preparation of a pre-feasibility study for the extension of the 1435-millimeter-gauge rail network to Ukraine and Moldova has been held.
Volodymyr Shemaev, director of the office for international projects at Ukrzaliznytsia, announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
The European Investment Bank’s technical advisory service (JASPERS) will conduct the pre-feasibility study under the leadership of the European Commission’s Directorate of Mobility and Transport.
According to Shemaev, the first meeting focused on planning the development of border crossing points.
As reported earlier, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced recently that they were beginning work on the preparation of a pre-feasibility study for the extension of the 1435-millimeter-gauge railway network to Ukraine and Moldova.
"Today, the European Commission, together with the European Investment Bank (EIB), is launching a pre-feasibility study to assess how to better connect the Ukrainian and Moldovan railway networks with the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)," the EIB said in a statement on 21 October.
According to the statement, JASPERS is in charge of completing the study by May 2023, in close cooperation with all the countries concerned.
