The sixth vessel chartered by the United Nations World Food Program has been loaded with wheat in the port of Chornomorsk.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
"The Pangeo bulk carrier, which will deliver 40,000 tons of wheat to the people of Yemen, is already the sixth vessel to be chartered by the UN WFP as part of the effort to help countries fight the food crisis," the statement said.
The first five ships delivered over 150,000 tons of wheat to Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen, and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, 51,400 tons of Ukrainian wheat is being unloaded from the Super Henry bulk carrier in Kenya. This is the first ship to transport wheat to this country.
"For us, it remains a priority to provide African and Asian countries with Ukrainian grain and oil. To date, over 4.3 million tons of food have been exported to countries on these continents. Saturating the market with Ukrainian agricultural products is what we can and are doing to prevent a food crisis in the world. All the port services are currently working at full capacity to load grain carriers and tankers promptly," Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yurii Vaskov said.
In addition, four more ships loaded with almost 50,000 tons of agricultural products left the ports of Greater Odesa for Asian countries on 18 October.
In the 2.5 months since the launch of the Black Sea Grain Initiative that established a humanitarian maritime corridor to allow ships to export grain and other foodstuffs from Ukraine, 353 ships loaded with over 7.8 million tons of agricultural products have left Ukrainian seaports.
