The Azov ship repair plant has repaired a two-clamshell grab that has been in operation in Odesa for more than 30 years. The repair enabled the customer to save a considerable amount because purchase of a new clamshell grab of the same type would cost over UAH 1 million, the CFTS portal reports, citing information from the Azov ship repair plant.

The clamshell grab with a geometric volume of 21 cubic meters for handling bulk cargo, particularly grains, is used on 25-ton portal cranes to handle bulk cargo weighing 14,700 kilograms per lift.

There was substantial spillage of cargo due to incomplete closing of the huge clamshells of the grab.

The Hardox 500 special sheet steel, which is used in structures that require increased wear resistance, was used to restore the grab at the Azov ship repair plant. Repairs, general assembly, and testing of the grab’s performance were performed at the Azov ship repair plant.

As the CFTS portal reported, the Azov ship repair plant repaired 43 items in 2016. It sold products worth more than UAH 125 million in 2016, including UAH 41.5 million from sale of machinery (including grabs and metal products for ore mines, seaports, etc.).
