Ukrainian seaports handled 71.672 million tons of cargo in the period of January-June, which was 2.7% more than they handled in the corresponding period of last year, the press service of the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine announced.
Transshipment of export cargo totaled 49.324 million tons (-2.8% compared with January-June 2014), transshipment of import cargo 9.505 million tons (+ 37.3%), transshipment of transit cargo 9.758 million tons (-17.5%), and transshipment of coastal cargo (cabotage) 3.085 million tons (a 10-fold increase).
Container transshipment at seaports reduced by 30% to 243,358 TEU compared with the first half of last year.
Ports in mainland Ukraine increased transshipment by 5.9%. In particular, state-owned port operators controlled by the Ministry of Infrastructure handled 25.663 million tons (36% of the total). Other companies (mostly private) operating at all berths handled 46.009 million tons (64% of the total), including 24.116 million tons (34% of the total) only at berths belonging to the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine.
