The port of Constanta (Romania) has begun using a floating crane to transship agricultural products arriving on barges from Ukraine via the Danube River onto commercial vessels for subsequent transportation to third countries.
This was reported by the CFTS portal, citing the Interfax Ukraine news agency.
According to the report, this will eliminate the need to transfer grain into port granaries and allow the volume of cargo handled by the port to increase.
The new logistics project, which facilitates an increase in the volume of Ukrainian cargo that is transported from the Reni and Izmail river ports and their subsequent loading onto commercial sea vessels in the port of Constanta, was launched by the Transport Trade Services company (TTS).
The floating crane transships grain cargoes from barges arriving by river from Ukraine directly onto commercial vessels in the deep-water part of the port of Constanta.
The first vessel to be loaded under the new logistics model was the Sierra Leonean-flagged Lausanne, onto which 31,000 tons of grain from Ukraine was loaded.
As reported earlier, Ukrainian agricultural exporters are forced to wait in line for 10 days or more to load grain vessels due to congestion in the Sulina Canal (Romania), because of which they are losing USD 500,000 per day.
