The Novocherkassk State Technical University’s Mysl engineering and consulting center has patented the idea of constructing a passenger-and-cargo cableway across the Kerch Strait. This was announced by the press service of the so-called Crimean Chamber of Commerce, the Crimean News publication reports.

The center proposed constructing a 4.5-kilometer cableway at an altitude of 70 meters above sea level. The Roza Khutor-Gornaya Village lift, which was built for the Winter Olympics in Sochi and is currently not in use, can be used for these purposes.

It proposes implementing this project over 1-2 years. According to scientists at the university, the lift will be able to carry 500 people and 45 vehicles per hour. The travel time will be 6-7 minutes (a ferry takes 40 minutes), and the fare is expected to be lower than a ferry fare – RUB 100 per person and RUB 600 rubles per vehicle (compared with  RUB 130 per passenger and RUB 700-1600 per vehicle on a ferry).

As reported, there is a proposal to construct an underwater tunnel in addition to a bridge across Kerch Strait.
