One of the areas of cooperation between the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) and the Deutsche Bahn railway company (Germany) under the memorandum that the two companies signed in Berlin last week is provision of assistance by Deutsche Bahn in restoring Ukraine’s railway infrastructure.
Volodymyr Shemaev, deputy director of the department of investment operations at Ukrzaliznytsia, stated this in an interview with the CFTS portal.
Asked to clarify how Deutsche Bahn could help restore the infrastructure, Shemaev explained that "it is about the verification and prioritization of the main projects, as well as the drafting of these projects in accordance with EU norms to ensure that we (Ukrzaliznytsia) will be able to obtain EU funding or international dedicated funds for them in the future."
According to him, there could also be individual infrastructure projects, for example, in liberated territories.
In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia is hoping that "Deutsche Bahn will be able to attract additional technical means for scanning the railway infrastructure after the war, which will allow it to determine the degree of wear and damage more accurately".
