The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has invited tenders for the supply of new trolleybuses, provision of consulting services, and modernization of the trolleybus infrastructure in Khmelnytskyi at the estimated total cost of EUR 16.75 million.

According to the tender documentation, the client is Khmelnytskyi’s Elektrotrans municipal enterprise.

The project involves the acquisition of new trolleybuses, the upgrade of trolleybus stops and traction power substations, and the modernization of the trolleybus depot in the city of Khmelnytskyi. The proceeds of an EBRD loan and a European Union Neighborhood Investment Platform (EU NIP) grant will be used for the acquisition of new trolleybuses along with spare parts, a remote monitoring system, and service equipment. The components financed with the city’s contribution will be procured in accordance with Ukrainian legislation.

The tender is open to participants from any country, unless otherwise specified in the procurement documents.

The estimated start date of procurement is 1 December 2023.

Khmelnytskyi city authorities and EBRD representatives signed an agreement on a future loan for the purchase of 50 trolleybuses last fall. Of these, 10 trolleybuses should be able to operate autonomously.

Khmelnytskyi has purchased 32 new trolleybuses and overhauled 6 since 2016.
