For the first time in over a decade, the state-owned Chornomorsk Commercial Seaport has begun handling steel billets. The port has already handled over 20,000 tons of cargo. It is awaiting the next batch of cargo and actively preparing to handle it.

The port announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

"In difficult wartime conditions, diversifying cargo flows and establishing work with metal cargoes is an important strategic achievement," the statement said.

Steel billets are raw materials for one of Ukraine’s largest industrial enterprises. A steady supply of this product allows Ukrainian production to continue, preserves jobs, and generates state budget revenues.

"In recent years, the port has specialized in handling grain cargo. During the war, diversifying cargo flows has been key to the company's survival and growth. The resumption of handling metal cargoes is the result of the port team's systematic work, which included implementing organizational, technical, and logistical changes," said Viacheslav Bezruk, director of the Chornomorsk Commercial Seaport.

The state-owned enterprise emphasized that this historic resumption of transshipment of metal cargo has enabled the port to broaden the range of the cargoes it handles and strengthen its resilience during the crisis.
