The state-owned Chornomorsk Commercial Seaport has received a liner container ship for the first time since the beginning of the war, making it the only state-owned Ukrainian port currently handling containerized cargo.
The seaport announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
According to the statement, the port has handled over 18,000 TEUs in the past 12 months.
"The Chornomorsk Commercial Seaport continues to sign new contracts and prepare for an increase in transshipment volumes. Active efforts are underway to broaden cooperation, attract new customers, and improve service quality," the statement said.
On 16 July 2025, the port set a record for the number of loaded containers handled during a single ship call (470 containers).
"In wartime conditions, maintaining liner container service contributes not only to the economy but also to the resilience of the country. It supports Ukrainian businesses, agricultural producers, manufacturers, and exporters," the port's management said.
As the CFTS portal previously reported, the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories plans to implement concession projects in the Chornomorsk port, including a container terminal concession project.
This concession project was presented in Warsaw this year. The concessionaire will be selected through an open auction based on the best price and terms. To ensure impartiality, the entire process is managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
