Test operations have already been performed on the route to ensure the military command’s security requirements are considered.
The Odesa district military administration, the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district military administration, and OSUO Odesa have signed a joint document, according to which a passenger service is to be launched on the Ovidiopol - Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi route on the River Dniester estuary.
The Odesa district military administration announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
According to the statement, test operations have already been performed on the route to ensure that the military command’s security requirements are considered.
The hydrofoil boat will be capable of transporting up to 50 passengers per trip.
"Nibulon, the carrier company, has performed the relevant work to ready the vessel…," the statement said.
"Considering the great demand and the successful practice last year, a decision has been made to launch a passenger water service on the Ovidiopol - Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi route on the River Dniester estuary in 2023," said Yurii Kruk, the head of the Odesa district military administration.
The hydrofoil boat will transport passengers from berth No. 1 in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi to the "Nova Prystan" berth in Ovidiopol at least three times a day and three times in the opposite direction.
"Recently, a test crossing was performed on the section of the Dniester estuary, where the restoration of passenger traffic between the Ovidiopol and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi communities is planned. This crossing of the Dniester estuary will allow people to transfer to local buses in Ovidiopol in 20–30 minutes and reach Odesa in about an hour. This link will become operational soon," Kruk added.
Passenger transportation between Ovidiopol and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi over the Dniester estuary was launched for the first time in 20 years last year. Over 8,000 passengers were transported from August to 30 October 2022.
