The Ministry of Infrastructure has set the goal of completing the construction of a parking area at the Boryspil airport within six months. This is stated in a Ministry of Infrastructure presentation to international investors in Kyiv on Tuesday, 24 May.

The project for completion of the parking area will be implemented based on public-private partnership. The Ministry of Infrastructure sees this as a pilot project and expects to apply the experience gained during successful implementation of this project to cooperation with investors on other projects.

As reported, the parking area near the airport’s main terminal, the Terminal D, was planned for construction as part of Ukraine's preparation for the 2012 European football championship. In late December 2015, the Ministry of Infrastructure ordered measures to be taken to accelerate the competition for selection of the investors that will complete the construction of the parking area.

In August 2015, a court terminated the airport’s contract with the general contractor for construction of the parking area and ordered the general contractor to repay the airport UAH 93.445 million, pay a penalty of UAH 4.095 million, and pay the airport’s legal costs of UAH 74,298. However, it became known in September 2015that the general contractor – PJSC Construction Department No. 813 – had appealed against the decision to terminate the contract. It is unknown whether the consideration of the appeal has ended.

According to estimates by the Ministry of Infrastructure, completion of the parking area will require an additional UAH 100 million. Criminal proceedings have been launched because the contractor received an advance payment but failed to perform the construction work.
