The Ministry of Infrastructure is planning to create an agency that will engage in construction, repair, and maintenance of runways at Ukrainian airports, which will be similar to the state-owned Administration of Seaports of Ukraine (ASU), which performs such work involving the approach canals of seaports. Minister of Infrastructure Andrii Pyvovarskyi announced this at a news briefing in Odessa on Tuesday, 2 June, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.

"As of today, a mechanism shared with us by our European partners is currently being developed. In many countries in Europe and the world, runways are managed by the state and state funds are invested in them. We would potentially like to create a company that would raise money, like the ASU, for take-off and landing and spend it exclusively on repair and maintenance of runways and on construction of new runways," the minister said.

He added that the decision to create such an agency could be adopted in the near future.
