The Ministry of Infrastructure has decided to implement the single aviation area with other countries (open skies) at the Lvov international airport. Infrastructure Minister Andrii Pyvovarskyi announced this in a statement, the CFTS correspondent reports.
"A decision has been made to open the Lvov airport. Today, we are opening the Lvov airport unilaterally. The State Aviation Service will send the appropriate letters in the coming days. Any foreign company will obtain permission from its State Aviation Service and it will be able to fly to the city," said the minister.
Commenting on the progress of solution of the problem involving the signing of an agreement on a common aviation area with the European Union, Pyvovarskyi said, "There was a meeting with the British ambassador today. I am beginning to understand that the process of signing the agreement will not be easy and, unfortunately, it does not depend on us."
The Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure has proposed that the Atlasjet Ukraine airline base its operations at the Lvov airport and operate its flights from there.
"We are proposing that the airline create a base in Lvov and fly from there without restrictions," said Pyvovarskyi.
As reported, the agreement on establishment of a Common Aviation Area between Ukraine and the European Union was initialed in Vilnius in November 2013. It was scheduled for signing in March 2014, but it was not signed.
The official reason for the delay in signing it is failure to agree the positions of Spain and the United Kingdom on the dispute over sovereignty over the territory in which the Gibraltar airport is situated.
