The volume of capital investments made by the Odesa seaport, which is a division of the Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA), increased 7.6-fold to UAH 343 million in 2018, compared with UAH 298 million in 2017.
The Odesa Port Authority made this information public at a meeting on the outcome of the USPA’s operations in 2018.
According to the Odesa Port Authority’s head Ihor Tkachuk, UAH 72 million was invested in the construction of the seaport’s berth No. 1-z last year. The berth is scheduled to be commissioned in 2019. The construction work has reached 73.8% completion.
UAH 185 million was invested in the reconstruction of the Odesa seaport’s berth No. 7. The first phase of the berth is scheduled to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2019. The berth is 90.3% complete.
It invested UAH 53.5 million in upgrade of overpasses in 2018. The upgrade work has reached 71.2% completion.
As the CFTS portal reported earlier, container traffic through Ukrainian seaports increased by 19% in 2018. The Odesa seaport remained the leader in terms of container handling volumes in in 2018, when its container volume increased by 15% to 598,600 TEU. At the same time, the volume of cargo handling by the Odesa seaport reduced by 10% last year.
