Exports of goods from Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation increased by more than USD 1.3 billion or 27.6% in the first six months of 2023, compared with the same period of 2022.
This is evidenced by data from the Kazakh Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms’ Bureau of National Statistics, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Anadolu news agency.
According to the bureau, exports of goods from Kazakhstan to Russia increased to USD 4.93 billion in January-June 2023, compared with USD 3.57 billion in the same period of 2022.
As previously reported, Kazakhstan is one of the countries through which Russia receives sanctioned and dual-use goods.
More than USD 1 billion worth of sanctioned goods from the European Union disappeared during transit through Russia to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia.
According to researchers, the surge in exports from the European Union with Kazakhstan listed as the destination is enough to compensate for about 40% of the fall in exports to Russia and Belarus after the imposition of sanctions at the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
