Lithuanian businesses are interested in investing in development of the Kherson seaport. This was discussed at a meeting on 30 July between First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Shulmeister and a Lithuanian delegation headed by the commercial attaché of the Lithuanian embassy in Ukraine, Rimantas Segzda, the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure announced.

In addition to Shulmeister, the meeting was attended by the head of the department of management of state property, Yurii Hvozdev, and the vice president of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, Arunas Laurinaitis.

The two sides discussed a project for reconstruction and development of the Kherson seaport, which is being developed with the assistance of the embassy of Lithuania and which provides for investment of a total EUR 50 million. According Laurinaitis, the project is based on the experience of the Klaipeda port and provides for construction of special terminals, restructuring of the model for organization of operations, and close cooperating with the city and institutions on environmental issues.

Shulmeister said at the meeting that Ukrainian ports currently handle about 30 million tons of agricultural products per year and that there are plans to double exports within five years.

The two sides agreed to finalize the investment project soon with the aim of announcing an open competition.
