The season of track repair and maintenance work to upgrade the railway infrastructure in areas with heavy train traffic has begun. By the end of 2024, the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) plans to repair over 1,195 kilometers of tracks and 1,073 sets of switches.
Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
According to the statement, major repairs will be performed on 386 kilometers of tracks and medium repairs on 810 kilometers of tracks.
Track repair and maintenance work will be performed in areas with heavy train traffic and high levels of wear and tear.
Over the year, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to use 310 pieces of track equipment and 2,640 pieces of special rolling stock based on freight cars for the repair work.
In addition, in 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to restore five man-made structures damaged during the war.
The repair work will not affect the rhythm of passenger transportation.
