The Naftogaz of Ukraine national energy company has transferred USD 786 million in gas debt to the Gazprom gas company (Russia). Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk announced this at a cabinet meeting on Friday, the RBC Ukraine publication reports.
"We have closed the accounts that are undisputed in our relations with Gazprom. These are the accounts in which the price is USD 268.5 [per thousand cubic meters of natural gas]. Such funds total USD 786 million," said Yatseniuk.
According to the press service of Naftogaz of Ukraine, the company transferred USD 786.3 million to Gazprom on May 30 as payment for the gas that was imported during the period of February-March 2014 at the price of USD 268.5 dollars per thousand cubic meters, which is not disputed by Naftogaz of Ukraine.
In addition, Yatseniuk said that Ukraine has already completed the preparation to file a lawsuit against Gazprom at the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce in relation to the unfair gas contract. The prime minister added that the next round of negotiations should be the final round and that it will take place on June 2. "These talks will either end in the signing of a contract or end with the filing of a lawsuit, as was have clearly stated,” said Yatseniuk.
