The Nibulon agricultural company (Nikolayev) is ready to implement within four months a project for dredging sandbars in River Dnieper to increase the drafts of passing vessels and improve the safety of navigation, the company’s Deputy General Director Andrii Volik has told the Center for Transport Strategies.
He said that commencement of the project depended on the government agreeing to compensate the company for its expenditures on this work. The format and mechanisms for such compensation are currently being determined.
At the Intertransport conference that took place during the International Transport Week in Odessa, Volik said that about 20,000 cubic meters of soil was expected to be removed during implementation of the project for dredging sandbars in River Dnieper (primarily in Dneprodzerzhinsk). As a result, the depth in these areas will increase to 4 meters compared with the current 2.9 meters (instead of the guaranteed 3.65 meters). The total cost of the project is UAH 15 million.
The site where the removed soil will be deposited has not yet been determined.
