The Nika-Tera sea terminal (Nikolayev), part of the Ostchem holding (which unites the Group DF holding’s nitrogen companies), increased its volume of grain transshipment by 105.5% from 1,071,130 to 2,201,618 tons in the 2013/2014 marketing year, the press service of the company announced.

Barley, as well as food and feed wheat were on the list of grain crops transshipped by the port in the past season. Corn accounted for 82.05% (1,806,288 tons) of the total volume of grain transshipped by the port, wheat accounted for 17.86% (393,295 tons), and barley accounted for 0.09% (2,034 tons).

A new grain silo with a capacity of 170,000 tons will be launched into operation at full capacity at the Nika-Tera terminal in the 2014/2015 crop year. The increase of the grain transshipment capacity almost five-fold will provide additional opportunities for simultaneous transshipment of several crops at the terminal.

According to the terminal’s head Oleksandr Haidu, the terminal’s transshipment volumes will increase and the range of cargoes it transships will broaden in the new season. In addition, the terminal will start providing services involving additional cleaning and drying of grain delivered by trucks in the 2014/2015 marketing year. According to its approved business plan, the terminal plans to transship about 3 million tons of various types of grains in 2014.

"We have concluded contracts with a number of grain traders. The first grain carriers are scheduled to be received on July 20," Haidu added.
