The parliament has increased the fine for drunk driving to UAH 51,000, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax Ukraine news agency.
The parliament adopted the bill No. 7279-d "On Amendment of Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine to Simplify Pre-Trial Investigation of Certain Categories of Criminal Offenses" by 230 votes.
"The bill adds a provision on operation of means of transport in a state of intoxication to the Ukrainian Penal Code, making it a criminal offense (punishable by a fine of between UAH 17,000 and UAH 34,000 and a driving ban for up to three years or a fine of up to UAH 51,000 and a driving ban for 2-3 years for repeat offenders)," the press service of the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the law will enter into force on January 1, 2020.
As reported, the Ukrainian police began fining drivers for speeding on October 16.
