President Volodymyr Zelenskyi visited a border crossing on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border and inspected the progress of implementation of the "Major Construction" national program in the Zakarpattia region during a working visit to the region.

According to the presidential press service, Zelenskyi noted that this program provides for repair of a record 370 kilometers of roads in the Zakarpattia region by the end of 2020, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.

"This is a really large number. We repaired 600 kilometers in the entire country from 2018 to 2019, excluding the Mariupol road, compared with almost 400 kilometers in one region. Roads and infrastructure are one of the most important priorities for our country," he said.

The president also inspected a bridge over the Tisza River at the border crossing. The head of state was informed that traffic on the bridge is too heavy because of its low throughput and that the bridge cannot be upgraded to increase the number of lanes on it.

"We will work to create two more normal and modern border crossings in order to relieve the traffic," Zelenskyi said.

Introduction of an electronic queue is being planned with the aim of optimizing traffic at the border crossing in Chop. It will synchronize the time of entry of vehicles, particularly trucks, about which drivers will be informed via a special application or SMS text messages.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, a new contractor has been selected to repair the M-12 highway in the Ternopol region instead of an unconscientious Chinese company.
