RegioJet, a private railway operator based in the Czech Republic, has announced the results of its passenger transport operations on the routes connecting Ukraine and the Czech Republic in the first half of 2024. According to the company, the number of passengers on the Prague-Przemyśl and Prague-Chop routes increased significantly, with over 130,000 passengers using the company's trains on these routes during these six months.

The company announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

The company initially began providing humanitarian train services on the Prague-Przemyśl route in March 2022 and later switched to commercial train services.

"This year, the route has shown excellent growth dynamics. Since its launch, over 410,000 passengers have been transported between Ukraine and the Czech Republic, with an annual increase of 60%. This trend continued in the first half of this year, when 105,000 passengers were transported on the route with an average passenger load factor of 85%," the company said.

In March this year, RegioJet also launched transportation services on the new route Prague-Košice-Chop, providing direct rail connections between Ukraine and the Czech Republic and between Ukraine and Slovakia.

Since its launch at the end of March, almost 25,000 passengers have used this service. This overnight service is in high demand, with an average seat occupancy rate of over 95%.

"We expect even better results in the second half of the year. If technical conditions allow, we plan to increase the number of seats on trains to Chop," said Michał Plaza, RegioJet's regional manager for Poland and Ukraine.
