The Reni port has secured a new cargo flow: citrus fruits from Egypt.

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

"The Zeinab refrigerated ship, which is equipped with enhanced ventilation and refrigeration units for the transportation of perishable goods, arrived at the port of Reni last week," the USPA said in the statement.

The ship transported 519.9 tons of fruits from Egypt (150.3 tons of oranges, 169.4 tons of pomegranates, 31.050 tons of lemons, and 169 tons of tangerines).

The fruits are currently being unloaded from the vessel onto trucks for subsequent delivery to consumers.

Traditionally, the ports of Chornomorsk and Odesa handled citrus fruits.

The leading port for handling this type of cargo was the Chornomorsk port. It handled 83,600 tons of citrus fruits in 2018, 74,100 tons in 2019, 43,000 tons in 2020, 35,500 tons in 2021, and 16,800 tons in 2022.

In addition, the Odesa port handled 45,400 tons of citrus fruits in 2018, 40,400 tons in 2019, 26,500 tons in 2020, 14,300 tons in 2021, and 7,600 tons in 2022.

"Since the ports of Greater Odesa are currently operating only under the Black Sea Grain Initiative, cargo owners are looking for other ways of delivering g citrus fruits to consumers," the USPA said.
