Activists from the Right Sector (Pravyi Sektor) organization seized the Kherson oil transshipment complex, which belongs to Serhii Kurchenko’s VETEK group, on Wednesday morning.
The Interfax Ukraine news agency reported this, citing the Kherson branch of Right Sector.
"We occupied part of the transshipment facility, specifically the oil depot, and handed it to law enforcement agencies. The objective was to prevent removal of petroleum products imported illegally," the organization said.
VETEK bought the Kherson oil transshipment complex in autumn last year. It consists of an oil terminal (which includes seven tanks for light petroleum products) and oil depots. The complex also has two berths for receiving vessels with load capacities of up to 10,000 tons.
According to Oleksandr Sirenko, an analyst with the UPECO consulting company, the Kherson oil transshipment could be worth between USD 120 million and USD 200 million.
