The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) and the Ukrainian Ministry for Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure have secured the definitive suspension of Russian Railways and Belarusian Railway from participation in the activities of the Regional Assembly Europe (RAE) and the General Assembly of the International Union of Railways (UIC).
Ukrzaliznytsia’s Board Chairman Oleksandr Kamyshin announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
He recalled that Ukrzaliznytsia and the Ministry of Infrastructure secured the suspension of Russian Railways and Belarusian Railway from all the activities of the above-mentioned bodies in early March. However, this preliminary decision needed to be ratified by the General Assembly.
"The Ukrzaliznytsia delegation again attended the meetings of the UIC’s assembly this week to secure the finalization of the decision to suspend the aggressors’ railways. Although we faced pressure from representatives of China, India, Mongolia, Iran, Armenia, and Kazakhstan, the decision on the definitive suspension was adopted, with 72% of the members of the UIC voting in favor," Kamyshin said.
He added that this diplomatic victory would not have been possible without the direct help of the railways of Asian, European, and American countries. They also confirmed their promises to provide their expertise and assistance to Ukrzaliznytsia in the post-war reconstruction of the infrastructure.
As reported, Ukraine withdrew from the railway cooperation agreement between CIS countries in November.
