The Irish low-cost airline, Ryanair, may begin flying to the Kyiv (Zhuliany) airport in autumn 2017, the Master Avia company’s General Director Oleksii Yakovets has announced, the CFTS reports, citing UBR.
According to Yakovets, the airport is in the active phase of negotiations with the European low-cost air carrier. The probability that Ryanair will start operating flights to Kyiv between late October and early November is high if extraordinary circumstances do not interfere with the negotiations.
"I will tell you a little trade secret. We are actually negotiating with the Ryanair company on launch of flights from the Kyiv (Zhuliany) airport... There is a 90% chance that it will be in the autumn-winter season of next year, i.e. between late October and early November," Yakovets said.
The Master Avia company provides ground handling services to flights departing from and arriving at the Kyiv airport, and it is the operator of the airport.
As the CFTS portal earlier reported, the LOT airline (Poland) will begin flying to Warsaw from the Zhuliany airport on 26 February. Initially, the flights will be operated six times a week and then operated daily in the summer.
It has also been reported that Ryanair is one of five companies planning to start operating flights to the Lviv airport in 2017.
In addition, Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian said in early November that he expected European low-cost airlines to arrive on the Ukrainian market in 2017. "At least one airport should definitely delight us with the appearance of a very well known European low-cost airline in Ukraine. I would really like it to be not one, but several of them," Omelian said.
