The acting head of the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia), Oleksandr Zavhorodnyi, has said that a significant number of Ukraine’s working fleet of gondola cars is currently our of reach, the Interfax Ukraine news agency writes.

"Our property is in a very difficult technical condition. A large number of gondola cars are out of reach: about 2,000 are located in the Crimea, half of them belong to Ukrzaliznytsia, and 11,500 railcars are located in the ATO zone, including a large proportion belonging to Ukrzaliznytsia," he said during the roundtable on "Modernization of the Transport Infrastructure: a New Dialogue between Businesses and Ukrzaliznytsia" in Kiev on Thursday.

He also stressed that Ukrzaliznytsia has "enormous internal resources to enable it to put things in order and start working normally, earning money, and gain the ability to upgrade" in the future.

As reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia intends to terminate agreements on lease of freight cars and return them under the control of the Ukrainian Transport and Logistics Center (UTLTs).

"Of Ukrzaliznytsia’s entire fleet of freight cars, 11,000 have been leased out. These lease agreements will be terminated and the railcars returned to UTLTs," Zavhorodnyi said earlier.
