The Zaporizhia regional road service has invited tenders from contractors for construction of part of the N-08 Boryspil-Dnipro-Zaporizhia highway, including bridges across River Dnipro in Zaporizhia.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
"Construction of the first phase of the facility - 21 artificial structures, including two bridges across the River Dnipro with exits to the Coastal Railway and Soborny Avenue – will begin in 2020 after determination of the winner of the tender," the ministry said in the statement.
The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers is hoping to complete the construction project within 2-3 years. In particular, the construction of the bridge is expected to be completed in two years.
The head of the State Road Service (Ukravtodor), Oleksandr Kubrakov, emphasized that the project for the construction of the Zaporizhia bridge (which began in 2004) is one of Ukravtodor’s priorities. The bridge will connect the left and right banks of River Dnipro with the highway through the Khortytsia island.
“This bridge should finally solve the acute transportation problem in Zaporizhia. This problem has accumulated over the years because the bridge could not be completed. A real step has been taken today. I hope that real work will begin in the spring to connect the left and right banks of River Dnipro with the highway,” Prime Minister Oleksii Honcharuk said.
As reported, the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure recently stated that completion of the Zaporizhia bridge would cost UAH 12 billion.
