National Transport Strategy should provide clear answers to the questions how the transport sector will function over the next 5-10 years. This position was expressed by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan on Day of Infrastructure event held by the EBA.

"For myself, I expect very simple things from the strategy - I want to understand what the transport balance is in the country. What are the priorities for funding, both local and foreign investments, what can bring a win solution in a global context: railway, aviation, river transportation, etc.", Omelyan said.

As an example he cited the situation with weight control, after its introduction, the cargo flows moved to the railway, and it was not prepared for this. "What will be the consequences when we develop the inland waterway transport? Where the cargo will come from: the railway, trucks? That is a small matter, but we must have a clear view, how it will work", the minister said.

According to him, the strategy is actually a road map, which is necessary for the industry to send a clear message to all participants, to show the direction of further development.

As a benchmark the German strategy can be used for elaboration of the national transport development strategy of Ukraine.

"I'm not really satisfied with the results of work. Not all Western advisors provide high quality services", noted the Minister.

"I think that we will take certain measures. I have a German transport strategy, despite the fact that we have different modes of transport, I want to compare it to what the European experts are preparing for us", Volodymyr Omelyan concluded.
