TIS Coal has told the CFTS portal that there are plans to transship of South African coal through the Ilyichevsk port and the TIS Coal terminal.
"The approximate volume of transshipment through TIS Coal is one ship per month. According to our information, the purchase of four vessels (a total of about 380,000 tons) has so far been confirmed. The expected period of the first vessel at the TIS Coal terminal is the beginning of November 2014," TIS Coal’s Deputy Director Chebruchan said.
As the CFTS portal previously wrote, Ukraine began buying steam coal abroad to compensate for the shortage of locally produced coal, which is caused by the fighting in the Donbas industrial region.
"The reduction of coal mining in the combat zone has created a shortage of such grades of coal as AT and T. Therefore, energy companies are forced to sign import contracts," said Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yurii Prodan.
