The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company (UDP) has freed the Bratislava tugboat and the Mekhanik Golovatskiy cargo vessel, which were arrested in connection with a lawsuit filed by the Russian Federation. The vessels are now returning to Ukraine from Serbia.
The shipping company announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
The vessels were arrested more than a year ago because of a lawsuit filed by the NIS Gazprom Neft company. The Gazprom Neft and Gazprom companies, which Russia controls, are the majority owners of this company.
"Russia secured the arrest of the entire UDP fleet, but we repelled the attack and continued to operate in the Middle Danube and operate services to Serbia. Only two vessels remained hostage. The struggle lasted for more than a year, and the vessels have finally been released," the UDP said in the statement.
According to the statement, the absence of two pieces of the UDP’s traction fleet did not affect the company’s transport volume.
