The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company (UDP) is loading a vessel with over 45,000 deadweight tons for the first time.
The UDP announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
Several caravans of barges have shipped 34,000 tons of barley to Constanta from Danube ports in recent weeks. Ship-to-ship transshipment of products onto the Ali M vessel is currently taking place.
"The export operation is being performed within the framework of the unified logistics service that was introduced last year. The caravans are loaded at the UDP’s stevedoring complex in Kiliia or other terminals, after which they head to the port of Constanta, where they are transshipped onto large seagoing vessels," the statement said.
According to the statement, the UDP controls the entire logistics chain.
"The UDP has retained the ability to handle large ships at a time of suspension of grain shipments from Odesa ports. Despite the traditional shallow waters on the River Danube, which can complicate the handling of ships, the company's caravans of river barges will continue to go to Constanta," the shipping company said.
