Ukraine has become the chair of the international organization Lower Danube Euroregion for the period of 2016-2017. The relevant decision was made during a meeting of the Council and General Assembly of this association in the Romanian town of Tulcea on April 13-14, Volodymyr Shemaev, the head of the department of investment in infrastructure projects at the Odesa regional administration’s Investment and Development Agency, said in his blog on the CFTS portal.
Ukraine did not participate in the work of the Euroregion in the period of 2014-2015 due to objective and subjective reasons.
Creation of the Ukrainian-Romanian ferries Orlivka-Isaccea and Izmail-Tulcea will be the priority of the international organization this year.
Furthermore, the possibility of developing bus services on the routes Izmail-Galati and Reni-Giurgiulesti-Galati is being discussed.
In the area of rail transport, the parties discussed restoration of the Berezino-Bessarabyask segment, which will connect the Odesa railway to the port of Reni, bypassing Transdniestria. They also discussed conversion of the Cantemir-Felice railway bridge into a combined (railway plus automobile) bridge to reduce the distance from Cantemir to Bucharest.
