Thanks to the operation of the temporary maritime corridor declared by Ukraine, the country exported 7.340 million tons of cargo through all its seaports in December 2023.
Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
According to her, this figure represents a one-third increase compared with November.
Overall, Ukraine exported almost 1 million tons more goods by sea in 12 months of 2023 than in 2022. In addition to grain, other goods, including metals, are exported via this route. Exports of this group of products increased after the launch of the alternative maritime corridor. The export of semi-finished products increased by 40% and flat products by 45.3% in December, compared with November.
However, according to the government, exports by road continue to decline. The main reason for this is the Polish border blockade. The volume of exports by road fell by 18.3% In December, compared with November. At the end of the year, losses amounted to 0.7%. Negotiations are underway at all levels to solve this problem.
At the same time, Ukraine has increased containerized cargo exports by 86% by rail and 36% by road. This is now the most efficient mode of transportation for value-added products, Svyrydenko said.
The Metinvest Group’s CEO Yurii Ryzhenkov recently said that ore exports by sea to reach the maximum of 2-3 million tons per month by the end of the first quarter of 2024.
As reported earlier, about 13 million tons of ore were exported to 24 countries via the Ukrainian temporary sea corridor between August last year and the end of December.
