Ukraine increased exports of goods to the European Union by road by 10 percent in monetary terms during the first eight months of this year while it reduced exports of goods to member countries of the Customs Union of the Common Economic Area (the CEA Customs Union) by 16 percent in the same period. This is shown by data that the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine provided to the Center for Transport Strategies portal.

Transportation of Ukrainian goods by road to countries of the CEA Customs Union in monetary terms reduced by 16 percent - from USD 5.55 billion in the first eight months of 2013 to USD 4.78 billion in the same period this year. Moreover, the rate of reduction is increasing: transportation of Ukrainian goods by road to countries of the CEA Customs Union reduced by 13 percent in June, by 20 percent in July, and by 24 percent in September.

Import into Ukraine from the CEA Customs Union by road reduced by 26 percent from USD 3.74 billion to USD 2.76 billion. The most noticeable reduction (by 38 percent) took place in August.

At the same time, export of Ukrainian goods to the European Union by road increased in monetary terms by 10 percent - from USD 3.56 billion to USD 3.9 billion - in the first eight months of the year. The best month was May, when it increased by 23 percent. However, the rate of increase was down to only 12 percent in July and even reduced by 3 percent in August. This was possibly due to problems involving trucking quotas.

Imports from the European Union into Ukraine by road fell by 22 percent from USD 11.9 billion to USD 9.3 billion. The most noticeable fall (by 35 percent) occurred in August.
