The first consignment of new freight cars produced in Ukraine has been delivered to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Railway Transport. According to Turkmenistan’s state news agency, the consignment consists of 25 gondola cars and 25 boxcars for transporting various types of cargo, the Interfax news agency reports.

Under the contract with the Ukrainian supplier, Turkmenistan will receive 750 railcars (375 covered railcars and the same number of gondola cars).

According to the agency, Turkmenistan has fully renovated its fleet of freight and passenger railcars and it is constantly upgrading them. In addition, Turkmenistan is currently strengthening its position as an important transit and logistics center of regional and continental importance.

As reported, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Regional Development, Construction, and Housing Hennadii Zubko announced in late 2015 that he was waiting for Turkmenistan to confirm that the Kryukov Railcar Building Works (Poltava region) had won a tender for supply of 750 railcars. At the same time, the press service of the Kryukov Railcar Building Works did not confirm or deny that the railcar building works was the company supplying the railcars to Turkmenistan.

"Turkmenistan has not named the supplier of the railcars. In this case, the value of the contract and the supplier of the railcars are commercial secrets," the press service of the Kryukov Railcar Building Works said.
