Ukrainian seaports handled 95.9 million tons of cargo in the first nine months of 2018, which is 1.7% less than they handled in the corresponding period of 2017. The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, citing cargo transshipment data.

Grain and ore accounted for about 50% of the total volume of cargo handled by Ukrainian seaports during this period. They handled 20.44 million tons of various ores, which is 3.5% less than the volume they handled in the corresponding period of 2017. According to the USPA, the situation improved significantly in September because the volume fell by 17% in the first eight months of this year.

Ukrainian seaports handled 26.9 million tons of grain in the first nine months of 2018, which is 8.9% less than they handled in the same period of 2017 (the volume reduced by 11.4% in the first eight months of the year).

Transshipment of ferrous metals increased by 15.1% to 12.1 million tons while transshipment of container cargoes increased by 15% to 591,300 TEU.

Cargo handling volumes increased by 25.6% at the Reni seaport, 23.6%at the Chornomorsk seaport, 15.5% at the Mykolaiv seaport, and 3.9% at the Izmail seaport, compared with the first nine months of 2017.

In total, Ukrainian seaports handled 69.9 million tons of export cargoes in the first nine months of 2018 (a 5.7% reduction compared with the corresponding period of 2017), including 11.4 million tons of ferrous metals (a 13% increase).

They handled 16.5 million tons of import cargoes in the first nine months of 2018 (a 19.6% increase compared with the corresponding period of 2017), including 5.5 million tons of non-ferrous metal ore (an 18.8%increase) and 3.9 million tons of coal (a 3.5% increase).

They also handled almost 8 million tons of transit cargo, which is 6.9% less than they handled in the corresponding period of 2017.

Ukrainian seaports have processed 8,674 vessels since the beginning of 2018, which is 78 or 0.1% fewer than the number of vessels they processed in the corresponding period of 2017.
