The Ukrainian Railways public joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) expects its freight transport volume to reach 342.7 million tons in 2016, which is 2.1% less than the volume in 2015, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.
The company expects the volume of transportation of domestic freight and import freight to increase and the volume of transportation of export and transit freight to reduce in 2016.
Ukrzaliznytsia expects its freight transport volume to increase by 1.7% to 348.8 million tons in 2017, compared with 2016, thanks to an increase in the volume of transportation of export, import, and domestic freight.
As reported, the freight transport volume in Ukraine reduced by 1% to 162.6 million tons in the period of January-June 2016, compared with the corresponding period of 2015.
During this period, the volume of transportation of domestic freight increased by 15.2% to 81.2 million tons and the volume of transportation of import goods by 5.4% to 18.3 million tons.
