The Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company transported more than 9.8 million passengers on long-distance routes in June, July, and August this year, compared with slightly more than 9 million passengers in the same period of last year.

In total, 48 additional trains were scheduled in summer this year. These trains performed 1,844 trips, carrying more than 1.8 million passengers. By comparison, additional trains carried more than 1.2 million passengers on 1,339 trips in 2015 and nearly 1.1 million passengers on 1,246 trips in 2014.

A characteristic feature of the current summer campaign was the broadening of the transport geography. For example, Ukrzaliznytsia provided direct rail services between regional centers of the northern part of Ukraine: from Lutsk, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, and Sumy to Odesa and Kherson. It also launched Intercity high-speed train services between Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Kherson.

In addition, it provided regular transport services to the west of the country: to Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhhorod, Lviv, and other tourist centers of western Ukraine. The dynamics of passenger traffic to tourist destinations shows that the popularity of domestic tourism is growing, Ukrzaliznytsia said.
