The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) mastered the production of a range of products that the company previously purchased from third-party suppliers at its own manufacturing facilities in 2022-2023.
Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement, the CFTS partial reports.
According to the statement, this will save the company about UAH 93.5 million.
"We will additionally master the production of 151 products worth UAH 760 million at our own facilities in 2022-2023. In particular, the production of 104 items worth UAH 615 million has already been mastered," Ukrzaliznytsia said.
The products that the company will manufacture at its own manufacturing facilities include new types of sleepers, which have helped to diversify the market of fastening suppliers, cabin doors for electric trains, barriers, brake shoes, brake beams, angles for reinforced concrete molds, etc.
As the CFTS portal reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia manufactured 177 freight cars at its plants in 2022, compared with 11 in 2021. They include 100 gondola cars, 75 flatcars, and 2 grain cars.
Private manufacturers of railcars told the CFTS portal that there is a shortage of some components on the market. According to them, bearings, elements of braking systems, large castings for bogies, molded parts, and a wide range of rolled metal products were the most scarce. According to the Aurum Group, there is a problem with certification and no Ukrainian company has received a permit to manufacture its own products in the past year.
