The state railway administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) reduced transportation of grain cargoes by 2.9 million tons or 18.7% to 12.608 million tons during the first nine months of this year, compared with the corresponding period of last year. The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement.
In total, more than 197,000 railcars were loaded, of which 24,006 railcars (1.330 million tons) were transported on the domestic market and 173,084 (11.278 million tons) were exported.
During the first nine months of 2013, the average daily load of grain transporters was 787 railcars or 221 railcars fewer than in the corresponding period of last year.
In September this year, Ukrainian railways loaded more than 28,800 grain cars, in which 1,870 million tons of grain was transported. The loading volume increased by 37,200 tons (1%) or 5 cars per day compared with September 2012.
In September, 27,068 cars (nearly 1.770 million tons of grain) - or an average of 902 cars per day - were loaded for export at ports. This was 6% (54 cars) more than the number loaded in September last year.
