Depots of the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) repaired 984 passenger railcars from January to June. In total, railroad workers prepared a fleet of 3,107 railcars, including 1,273 air-conditioned railcars, for transportation of passengers in the summer, the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia announced.
During the repair process, crews paint the bodies of railcars and upgrade their interiors and interior equipment, including electrical and refrigeration equipment.
By design, only 35% of the total number of railcars is equipped with air conditioning systems. Other railcars have so-called "natural ventilation."
According to the press service, as of today the depreciation of passenger rolling stock operated at nights is currently 85.8%. The fleet of passenger railcars reduces by an average of 200 every year because of old age.
