RBC-Ukraine asked the Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company’s head Oleksandr Zavhorodnyi about his opinion on an initiative by parliamentary deputies to build a railway line to the Bukovel ski resort.
Zavhorodnyi replied that he saw no economic benefit in this. "It is necessary to spend almost UAH 1.5 billion. What will Ukrzaliznytsia receive in return? Half a billion spent for the opportunity to travel on a train on this segment? Economically, it is not profitable," he said.
The head of Ukrzaliznytsia added that the company would be able to buy 10 new trains or spend UAH 1 billion on Bukovel if Ukrzaliznytsia received UAH 2.4 billion as compensation for transportation of government-subsidized passengers.
"We are ready, but nobody wants," Zavhorodnyi said.
